| Name: | Rose of Noonvale (OU) |
|---|
Character: Laterose of Noonvale, generally known as Rose, "
Series/Fandom: Redwall
Original or Alternate: OU
Barracks Assignment: Mui-Eksi
Training Category: Doctor
Age: Unknown, probably around 16 seasons (four years; equivalent to a human teenager) (Edited due to new info regarding aging in this canon)
Gender: Female
Species: Mouse (anthropomorphic)
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Rose is a pretty mousemaid, with brown and cream-colored fur and hazel eyes. She's around five feet tall*, and generally dresses in the simple robes of a traveling healer.
However, she is an anthropomorphic mouse, tail, paws, whiskers, and all, which is liable to seem strange to most humans (and vaguely similar beings) who meet her. She, naturally, will probably have the same difficulty with humans, whom she's never seen before.
*Scales and heights are debatable in the Redwall series, as humans do not exist and it's unclear whether many objects are the same size in that world as this. For the sake of simplicity, I'll be playing her as this size so that she can function in Econtra without too much trouble.
Personality: Rose is a quiet, patient, kindly creature - all traits essential to a healer. She is reluctant to engage in physical conflict, but when convinced that fighting is necessary, she can be very determined, and she is always eager to help a friend. She also has just a bit of a mischievous streak - which could explain her favored way to frighten off enemies.
Abilities: Rose is a talented singer - described by some as the best in Noonvale. She is capable of mimicking most sounds very well, and can imitate the hunting cry of a great eagle perfectly enough to fool (and generally terrify the wits out of) nearly any listener. She is also a skilled healer, and quick on her paws when necessary.
Weapons: Though she prefers to avoid conflict, Rose is an accurate shot with a sling (and capable of using a loaded sling as a club).
Weaknesses: Rose is unused to conflict, and occasionally easily overwhelmed. She also has a slight tendency to give the benefit of the doubt to those who really don't deserve it.
History: Laterose was the daughter of Urran Voh, chieftain of the creatures who lived in Noonvale. Noonvale was a place of peace, never knowing war or famine, so the worst conflicts that occurred were those of personality - such as that between Rose's father and her brother Brome. Brome took off wandering, and Rose set out with her good friend, a champion digging mole and cook called Grumm Trencher. The two followed Brome's trail to the vermin fortress Marshank, stronghold of Badrang the Tyrant.
They arrived on the night of a great storm, where a young mouse called Martin, son of Luke the Warrior, had been staked on the walltop for defying Badrang and attacking one of the stoat's lieutenants. Rose determined to rescue Martin as well as Brome. In the morning, Rose's imitation of an eagle's cry frightened off the seabirds who would have killed and eaten Martin, and she and Grumm hurled rocks at Badrang's soldiers. Eventually, they were able to rescue the two mice, as well as a squirrel called Felldoh, in the confusion caused when Marshank was attacked by corsairs. Escaping in a longboat, the five were separated when it was wrecked by an enormous fish. Martin, Rose, and Grumm were taken captive by pigmy shrews, but were released along with a hedgehog called Pallum after Martin saved the queen's child from an enormous gannet. Helped along their way by a mole called Polleekin, who dreamed of the future, a family of rabbits, a great heron known as the Warden of Marshwood Hill, an owl named Boldred, and the otter Starwort, they made their way to Noonvale. Somewhere in all this, Martin and Rose fell for each other.
But none of them forgot about Felldoh and Brome, who'd been separated from them, and the slaves still at Marshank. And when Boldred brought them news of the war Felldoh, a few other escaped slaves, and a band of wandering actors were waging against Badrang, they returned with all speed - at the head of an army of squirrels, shrews, otters, and river-dwelling hedgehogs. More were waiting for them at Marshank, including the Warden and Boldred herself - the great birds of prey were formidable fighting forces on their own. Together with the actors and slaves - Felldoh had been killed by Badrang - they assaulted the fortress, and Rose managed to attack Badrang himself, battering the tyrant with a loaded sling. Badrang threw her off - and against the wall, breaking her neck and supposedly killing her. She was drawn to Econtra as Martin leapt upon Badrang in a rage, slaying the stoat with his father's sword, which Badrang had stolen.
